Why is a Reading Corner Important for School Students?

Imagen
At Cost Cutters UK, we recognise that reading is one of the most important parts of children’s learning and development. Having a dedicated and comfortable reading area can influence students to read and encourage them to spend more reading in a cosy corner.  Reading alone or with a teacher can improve student’s confidence and encourage them to read more often. A quiet and private area can give students who are nervous to read around others the confidence to read alone in a cosy dedicated reading area. Keep a selection of books on open shelves in the reading corner for your students to explore and discover. The reading corner can be a great place for children to discover their favourite books and genres. Tips for creating the perfect reading corner Decoration – Your reading area needs to be big enough to fit a few students or a student and a teacher in at a time but small enough to feel like a cosy, private area. The more colourful and decorated your reading area is, the more time...

Numbers

Imagen
Most individuals don't think about numbers, or numerical representations of quantity, but they play a major part in everyday life. To be sure, numbers determine the time individuals will wake up in the morning, how much money employees earn per hour, what day of the year it is, and much, much more. Additionally, numbers impact everyday living on a much smaller scale. In the grocery store, for instance, numbers determine products' prices, the amount of a product available for purchase, how much money will need to be paid for products, and a whole lot else. To understand larger (and more intimidating numbers), interested persons first need to understand basic numbers, or numbers from one to ten, as they comprise each and every advanced number, or a multi-digit number that indicates a larger amount/quantity. The Environment

Imagen
In our modern world, there are many factors that place the wellbeing of the planet in jeopardy. While some people have the opinion that environmental problems are just a natural occurrence, others believe that human beings have a huge impact on the environment. Regardless of your viewpoint, take into consideration the following factors that place our environment as well as the planet Earth in danger. Global warming or climate change is a major contributing factor to environmental damage. Because of global warming, we have seen an increase in melting ice caps, a rise in sea levels, and the formation of new weather patterns. These weather patterns have caused stronger storms, droughts, and flooding in places that they formerly did not occur. Air pollution is primarily caused as a result of excessive and unregulated emissions of carbon dioxide into the air. Pollutants mostly emerge from the burning of fossil fuels in addition to chemicals, toxic substances, and improper waste disposal. Ai...

Planning at the service of learning

Imagen
The article describes the creation and development of an educational research group focused on multigrade teaching in rural schools of Uruguay. The group was established in 2007 and is integrated by rural teachers interested in addressing the planification and teaching challenges in multigrade classrooms. The base of the investigation is that multigrade groups' work is innovative and seeks to dissolve the dissociation between planning and action in the classroom. The team developed a toolbox to improve teaching in multigrade classrooms. In this toolbox we can find a “field diary” used to register and reflect about planification, it also has a didactic itinerary to organize didactic tasks in the classroom in an integrative way. This methodology potentiated learning by changing the organizational perspective of work in the classroom, going from planning by grades to integrated planning. The study was divided in three stages: the construction of research agreements and investigator ro...

Arts education in the classroom: 7 reasons why it’s important

Imagen
Although there’s a lot of information available on how important arts integration is in creating well-prepared learners and leaders, a lot of institutions consider arts education a luxury and skip it from their curriculum in order to focus on or complete the syllabus.  However, there is also a visible trend of many other schools turning their focus onto overall student development, with art being an integrated part of the curriculum. Arts education helps students think outside the box and explore topics in an unfamiliar way. Let’s discuss some of the reasons why arts education is important:  Creativity           Art enhances creativity, which in turn fosters problem-solving skills. By participating in arts and learning activities, children develop confidence in their abilities and learn new things.  Arts also promote risk-free exploration, and it is this freedom that inspires confidence. It...

Curiosity Releases Dopamine, Which Not Only Brings Pleasure but Also Improves Observation and Memory

Imagen
The brain’s desire and reward system (the producer of the neurotransmitter dopamine) is deeply embedded in our human development and evolution. Since social scientists believe that reward drives all behavior, and behavior creates evolutionary adaptation, the dopamine system has been critical in our evolution into the complex beings we are (Muller, 2014).  When students are curious and seek to satisfy their goals and desires, they get a hit of this pleasure-producing chemical. In one study on the effects of dopamine, people were given a list of trivia questions, like “Who was the president of the United States when Uncle Sam first got a beard?” or “What does the term ‘dinosaur’ actually mean?” and then asked how curious they were to learn each answer. They then were given brain scans while being presented with both the answers to the trivia questions and additional unrelated information. When the participants’ curiosity was triggered, their brains released dopamine. Upon being teste...

“Teenagers and social networks”

Imagen
We are immersed in a changing society, in which information and communication technologies (ICT) have become an indispensable element in our lives. Adolescents are one of the most vulnerable groups to the impact of new technologies, especially when it comes to the use of computers, cell phones and video games. It is important to establish that teenagers not only use technological tools to do homework for class, but they also use them to make use of the different social networks, such as the use of TikTok, which has become one of the main online platforms for American teenagers, while the percentage of teenagers using Facebook has plummeted. YouTube tops the 2022 teen online landscape among the platforms covered in the Center’s new survey, as it is used by 95% of teens. TikTok is next on the list of platforms that were asked about in this survey (67%), followed by Instagram and Snapchat, which are both used by about six-in-ten teens. After those platforms come Facebook with 32% an...
